Washington has promised to make healthcare cheaper and more accessible, but many families still worry about rising premiums, deductibles, and costs in a complex system managed by insurers, the government, and bureaucrats. Patients often feel overlooked and that the system mostly serves regulators, stakeholders, intermediaries, and hospitals.

That is precisely why the America First Policy Institute’s five-part policy series, It’s Your Money: Making Your Health Dollar Work for You, The Patient, deserves attention, and you should read it.

The series starts with an obvious question: Who should control healthcare dollars?

The answer should be simple. The patient.

But sadly, America’s healthcare system has moved away from empowering individuals. Instead, it channels healthcare decisions through multiple layers of insurers, regulators, and hospitals, moving it further from the patient.

The American First Policy Institute’s series proposes a positive alternative to the ineffective system, emphasizing that healthcare funds belong to patients and the system should be centered on this principle. Rather than focusing on how government or insurers can improve healthcare spending management, the series explores how Americans can reclaim control over their healthcare decisions. This shift in approach is both sensible and long overdue.

Across five papers, the series champions healthcare reform focused on empowering individuals, prioritizing innovation over bureaucracy, and promoting competition over self-interest. Whether discussing consumer choice, financing, transparency, or market competition, the main point stays consistent: healthcare should prioritize patient needs.

Price transparency is essential for a patient-first healthcare approach. When patients know the cost of care before receiving it — not weeks later — they can compare options, ask questions, and make informed decisions.

The series highlights this reality that most Americans experience firsthand. Markets work best when consumers have information, choices, and incentives, but healthcare often denies these: prices are hidden, benefits are top-down, competition is limited, and consumers spend thousands with less info than buying a TV or airline ticket.

Voters agree, polling from America’s New Majority Project found 84% support requiring providers to post clear, upfront prices, and 93% said transparent pricing is personally important to them.

No market can function well under those conditions. Healthcare should be no exception.

The America First Policy Institute also highlights the Trump administration’s successes in reducing health care costs, including easing Direct Primary Care (DPC) regulations, expanding Health Savings Accounts for Obamacare enrollees, lowering drug prices through TrumpRx, and introducing the Great Healthcare Plan.

When Trump announced the Great Healthcare Plan on January 15, 2026, he said, “The government is going to pay the money directly to you. It goes to you, and then you take the money and buy your own healthcare… The big insurance companies lose, and the people of our country win.” Republicans are running on a policy of patient first healthcare with price transparency, lower costs, and more options.

Healthcare reform should not begin with insurance companies, government agencies, or hospital administrators. It should begin — and end — with the American patient.

The America First Policy Institute reminds policymakers that when patients control more healthcare decisions and dollars, the system becomes more accountable, competitive, and responsive.

This isn’t just a policy prescription it’s what voters say they want. A recent America’s New Majority Project survey found that once patients control their own healthcare dollars, demand for price transparency actually intensifies, with 73% saying it becomes even more important to them once they’re the ones holding the money.

The recent surge in endorsements by the Democratic Socialists of America for various electoral races — congressional, state, and local — is cause for concern.

This year, the Democratic Socialists of America has endorsed 29 candidates for the House of Representatives. Of these, 11 have been defeated in their primaries, seven have won, and 11 are still awaiting their primaries.

The importance of these endorsements lies in the positions held by some of these candidates. Here are a few examples of the candidates and their viewpoints:

Melat Kiros, a former attorney, defeated 30-year incumbent Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette for Colorado’s 1st Congressional District. Endorsed by both the DSA, Denver DSA, and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, Kiros triumphed in her June primary with 53.2% of the vote, compared to DeGette’s 39.8%.

Kiros’s campaign website advocates for ending all wars, stating, “At $30 billion, our tax dollars have funded what nearly every human rights organization in the world, including the United Nations, has called a genocide in Palestine.” She also campaigns to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, criticizing its officers as “masked agents kidnapping innocent people” and a “terror apparatus.”

Donavan McKinney is running in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District with a primary today. He is endorsed by Metro Detroit DSA, Sen. Sanders, and U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, and Ilhan Omar. His campaign focuses on ending military aid and arms to Israel, calling for Israel to “immediately end the genocide and release all Palestinians who have been detained,” and supports a Green New Deal to shift to 100% renewable energy.

Pennsylvania State Rep. Chris Rabb won his Democratic primary in May for the 3rd Congressional District with 44.2% of the vote. he defeated opponents with 29.5% and 24.1%. Rabb is endorsed by U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the DSA. His campaign platform includes creating federally operated grocery stores, abolishing ICE, impeaching President Donald J. Trump, advocating for Palestinian self-determination, ending the Cuba embargo, and overhauling the U.S. Supreme Court (which would of course require amending the U.S. Constitution).

Hartzell Gray is a candidate for Missouri’s 4th Congressional District, with a primary today. Supported by Kansas City’s DSA branch and Congressman Ro Khanna, Gray advocates for Medicare for All, dismantling the “military-industrial complex,” ending endless wars, stopping all funding to Israel, raising the federal minimum wage to $25/hour, abolishing ICE, and repealing the Patriot Act.

In state politics, Francesca Hong is running to be governor of Wisconsin, with a primary on Aug. 11. She currently leads in recent polls by 38%, with Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes at 16%. Endorsed by various DSA chapters and Wisconsin Electoral Socialists, Hong supports abolishing ICE, allowing noncitizens to obtain state IDs without a Social Security Number, and proposing a 1% tax increase on high-income earners.

Taken together, these endorsements illustrate a broader effort by the DSA to move the Democratic Party further to the left and cement it as the party of big government socialism.

As more openly socialist candidates continue to win Democratic primaries, voters should be concerned about their growing influence on the Democratic Party and American politics. Meanwhile, traditional Democrats are just beginning to realize the poison they invited into their party.

The Oldest American Tradition: Answering When a Neighbor Calls

The alarm went out before sunrise on April 19, 1775. Riders pounded down the Boston Post Road. Church bells started in Lexington and Concord and worked their way outward through the countryside, and by mid-morning men from towns as far as 40 miles off had left their fields and shops and were walking, running, or riding toward the fight. Nobody in Acton, Bedford, or Sudbury was told the war belonged to them. They figured it out on their own.

That is the country we come from. It is worth remembering what it looked like, because Americans from Oregon to North Carolina are being asked to answer a call again. It’s a quieter one, but it’s the same in kind.

The American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage. The word “emergency” gets thrown around loosely these days, so it’s worth being specific: The national supply fell about 25 percent in June, and hospitals are burning through roughly 3,500 units a week more than expected. Blood cannot be stockpiled. Red cells last 42 days. Platelets last five. There is no vault to draw from, and no way to spin one up. There is only whoever showed up this week with a rolled up sleeve.

Only about 3 percent of eligible Americans donate in a given year. That figure is not, I think, a verdict on our generosity. It is more like a habit we’ve lost. Nobody asks. Nobody organizes the church bus to the donation center anymore. The school drives that used to run every spring have thinned out. Meanwhile someone in this country receives a transfusion every two seconds — a car wreck on I-40, a woman hemorrhaging after childbirth in some rural Oregon county, a nine-year-old with sickle cell whose next transfusion is already on the calendar.

The blood itself does not know where it came from. That is part of the point. A pint drawn in Asheville can end up in a trauma bay in Portland by the end of the week. Nobody attaches a name or a politics to it. It just goes where a person is bleeding.

Which brings us back to the older habit. This country was not organized around geography or ancestry. It was organized around a unique and durable idea that citizens owe each other something even when they’ve never met — and that the debt is enforced by conscience rather than statute. The Founders staked the whole experiment on that bet. They understood the republic could not survive if Americans stopped believing the stranger a 1,000 miles away had a claim on them.

The Red Cross blood program itself was born from this instinct. The Army came to the Red Cross in 1941 and asked for a civilian donor system to keep British soldiers alive across the Atlantic. The first bloodmobile rolled into Farmingdale, New York, in March of that year. Ordinary people lined up. They had no idea whose arm would get their blood. It didn’t matter then, and it doesn’t matter now.

The minutemen did not ask whose fight it was. They grabbed what they had and went. What is being asked of us is considerably smaller. An hour. One arm. A short drive to a donation center where ever you live, from the Outer Banks to the Willamette Valley.

The person on the other end of it is not a stranger. He or she is a fellow citizen. Go.

Democrats are doubling down on big government socialism with “weird values” that average voters simply cannot relate to. These values are centered on spreading socialism, raising taxes, reparations, disrespecting the American flag, prioritizing Palestine over America, and so on. Meanwhile, Republicans are offering policies with wide public support.

When looking purely at the facts, Republicans are cutting taxes, creating jobs, reducing healthcare costs, and supporting young families with the Trump Savings Accounts. Winning the midterm election depends on informing voters that GOP policies make life better for Americans of all ages.

Furthermore, thanks to conservative economic policy, wages are finally outpacing inflation, which is key to winning the battle for affordability. When it comes to putting more money in the pockets of American citizens, there is no contest. Republicans need to campaign on their record of success.

It will be an exciting moment when President Trump unveils his messaging strategy at the upcoming Republican midterm convention.

Newt also suggested that public opinion remains strongly aligned on several key issues. He cited broad support for measures such as voter identification, limiting participation in U.S. elections to American citizens, protecting women’s sports, and increasing parental involvement in education. Despite the many current challenges America is facing — and the propaganda media’s constant efforts to attack the administration and conservatives — Republicans have a tremendous opportunity before them in November.

The key to a Republican victory will be making the midterm elections about one question: Which party is better for you, your family, and America? This is the path to an historic victory for President Donald J. Trump and Republicans in 2026.

While the question is simple, convincing Americans to choose the GOP will be difficult. After all, the leftwing media has spent 11 years emphasizing every negative story about President Trump and Republicans — and downplaying all positive ones. Similarly, the Democrats’ disdain for Trump has led them to stop him at all costs — even if that means undermining our security, weakening our economy, or disrupting our government’s ability to function.

Winning requires Republicans to understand and communicate four big ideas about the nature of reality and the facts and truth of the situation. The GOP should treat each as its own campaign.

The Socialists Are Taking Over

The greatest vulnerability of the 2026 Democrats is the degree to which they have become the party of big government socialism and weird values. The pattern of Democrats moving toward openly socialist, anti-American positions is building. Consider the spate of recent candidates in New York, including Darializa Avila Chevalier, who boasted about using the American flag as a napkin. This is creating an opportunity to brand the Democrats for a generation or more as unelectable.

Republicans have a simple case to make: Big government socialism does not create jobs, increase wages, train people for the future, make people healthier, or simply work at a practical level. It just runs out of other people’s money to spend. Of course, establishment Democrats and the media are trying to downplay this shift in the party. But when establishment Democrats get to Washington, they talk and vote like big government socialists to appease the activist fundraising apparatus.

Even those who are inoculated from the socialist strain would rather stop Trump than help Americans.

We Must Bring Down Costs

Republicans must have an intense, compelling, focused plan for affordability and jobs with good incomes. A recent Pew Poll found that 73% of Americans said healthcare costs were a major problem, 66% said food and consumer costs were a problem, 62% said housing affordability was a major problem. Ultimately, Republicans must go where the people are — not try to get people to come to where their campaign would be comfortable. A Republican Affordability and Jobs Plan is a major building block of victory. Part of it also must describe what Democrats are doing to kill jobs, raise prices, and undermine affordability — while outlining what President Trump and Republicans have done to help raise family incomes and create opportunity and jobs.

Be the America Party

President Trump’s focus on patriotic and foundational cultural issues and emphasis on America and the Freedom 250 project have set the stage for Republicans to become the American Party (much as Thomas Jefferson’s Democratic-Republican Party became the American Party which marginalized the Federalists). A positive President Trump-Republican campaign emphasizing popular 70% to 90% issues that the Democrats demonstrably oppose — and appealing to everyone who cares about those issues — would strengthen the image of the Republican Party and isolate the Democrats.

The Healthcare Opportunity

New science, technology, and understanding of how to stay healthy is creating an opportunity for a health-oriented Republican program to create a totally new dialogue around healthcare. Efforts to make the healthcare system more transparent and understandable to everyday people will expose waste and abuse and bring down costs. Healthcare is a matter of life and death — and makes up about 18% of the national economy. It is the highest value for most Americans at a practical level. If Republicans can become the party of a healthy America, we would create an opportunity involving every life in our country.

Because this is the boldest and newest development it will take more training for members, candidates, staffers, committees, and campaigns to talk about it comfortably. It offers an enormous opportunity to work with the American people in a positive program that dramatically broadens Republican appeal and shows us as the caring, compassionate, problem-solving party that we are. In the process of helping people lead healthier, better lives, we would also liberate several trillion dollars now tied up in wasteful, bureaucratic, bad policies, and obsolete approaches.

It has always been harder to govern than to campaign. This is why historically the party in the White House normally loses seats in the midterm elections. If the liberal media and the Democrats can make 2026 a referendum on the current state of things, they might be able to win a normal off-year victory.

However, if Republicans decisively win these four arguments, 2026 will be one of the most historic elections in our 250-year history.

Thirty years ago this summer, Congress passed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act. Welfare reform succeeded because it recognized a simple but powerful truth: public programs work best when they reward responsibility, accountability and innovation.

By giving governors greater flexibility while also making them more accountable for the outcomes, we encouraged states to rethink old assumptions, experiment with new approaches and become better stewards of taxpayer dollars. We are currently living through a dramatic transformation in warfare and national defense.

As NATO Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Adm. Pierre Vandier told Fox News this week, the conflicts we are observing in Ukraine and Russia — and sporadically fighting in the Strait of Hormuz — are demonstrating this change in real time.

As Adm. Vandier put it: “Today, the math is not in favor of the West.”

He pointed out that many of our current missile and aerial defense systems are built to defend against smaller numbers of munitions and aircraft. The ever-increasing frequency and size of drone attacks in the Russia-Ukraine war, and those that Iran is deploying in the Strait of Hormuz, are quickly expending our supply of interceptors.

This is a serious, dangerous problem. Our two main air defense tools — Patriot missiles and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense systems — are exquisite and effective. But they are also expensive and require time to build.

“There is no way to produce 50,000 Patriots a year,” Adm. Vandier told the news outlet. “We don’t have the supply chain, and it’s not worth doing that given the cost of the weapon.”

Adm. Vandier suggested the solution is for America and its allies to develop a modern, multi-layered defense system which can counter drones and other emerging aerial weapons with much cheaper devices. A single Patriot missile costs about $4 million — and a full battery of them costs about $1.1 billion. It makes no sense to counter $10,000 drones with $4 million missiles. That’s a war of attrition we will not win.

We have been through this sort of dynamic change in warfare before. Remember, as radio-equipped German tanks were storming across Europe in early World War II, the Allies were getting destroyed. Most of our tanks were not equipped with real-time communication devices — and in some areas we were still countering German tanks with cavalry. As you can imagine, this did not bode well for the West. In response to this challenge, Gen. George C. Marshall retired the cavalry and urged his commanders to solve the problem.

Within a relatively short amount of time, the U.S. Army had developed the shoulder-fired rocket launcher (based on the early designs of the bazooka out of World War I) as the primary anti-tank weapon. At the same time, America and the Allies implemented their own armored vehicle radio systems — fully equipping our tanks with radios by 1943 — and leveraged our industrial advantages to simply outproduce the German tank-building system.

However, today’s challenge is much more dynamic and dangerous. As I wrote in my upcoming book America’s Golden Age, the advancement of drone technology, combined with artificial intelligence, advanced material science, and advanced manufacturing, will soon lead to weapons which are much cheaper, easier to make, and potentially much more deadly.

Beyond this, space will increasingly become a war-fighting domain against which we will have to defend. I spent most of Monday being briefed at Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado. While we are working on some amazing things for our defense in space, our enemies are working on terrifying things with which to threaten us.

As Adm. Vandier pointed out, the West must develop a holistic defense system of the future — before the weapons of the future are fully realized and used against us. Otherwise, we may not have the opportunity to play catch-up.
